Marcus Palmer Post-Tribute show – 4/29/82

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Here is about 30 minutes of audio from the day after the Marcus Palmer Tribute Show. It ran on WLS-FM on April 29, 1982.

To listen to the Tribute Show, scroll down or go here for Part 1.

Steve & Garry talk about the day before and Pat’s birthday party the night before. Steve also tries to make go-cart noises and Maggie does news about Marcus and the Falklands.

The audio quality is still a little rough.

Marcus Palmer Tribute show – 4/28/82 – (2/2)

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

This is Part 2 from the audio of the Steve and Garry Marcus Palmer Tribute Show on WLS-FM, April 28, 1982. Scroll down or go here for Part 1.

April 28th was also Pat Dahl’s 1st birthday (more on that in an upcoming post).

Sometimes it freaks me out to think that this was 28 years ago.

Marcus Palmer Tribute show – 4/28/82 – (1/2)

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Marcus Palmer was big. Big in all aspects of the word. Including a really big heart. Not only did he help Steve & Garry with the show, he became a friend to both S & G and was much loved by staff and regular listeners.

Marcus passed away Monday, April 26, 1982. He was just 20 years old at the time. Marcus had a cardiac arrest on the operating table during routine tonsil surgery. The news was discovered during a phone call to the hospital while Steve & Garry were on the air making for a surreal and devastating experience. What starting a few days before as jokes and wise remarks about a routine procedure turned into the unthinkable.

S&G left the show after hearing the news and did not come into work on Tuesday (4/27). This is about 40 minutes of audio from the Steve and Garry show on WLS-FM the day they returned, April 28, 1982. This post is in two parts. This is about as real as radio gets.

Sorry that the audio quality is not the best. I did what I could to clean it up a bit. The first two minutes are pretty rough but it does get slightly better.

Steve & Garry – April 23, 1982 (1/2)

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Here is 45 minutes (one side of a cassette) of Steve & Garry from Friday, April 23, 1982. Broadcast on WLS-FM. This post is in two parts.

This is the last show that Marcus Palmer ever appeared on before he passed making it a little bitter sweet. I have some audio from the Marcus Palmer tribute show but the quality is not that good. Very over-modulated. Can anyone give me any feedback as to the quality of audio you are expecting here? I can post it, but would rather not if people won’t want to listen to something that sounds crappy. Thoughts?

The quality of this post is so-so. If the original source material is not that great, there is nothing I can do.

Highlights include (22:02)

  • Call/letter from a disgruntled show attendee
  • Maggie – Diaper stories
  • News w/ Maggie – Falklands

Enjoy!!

  • Steve reads fan mail
  • Steve & Garry walk out. Marcus takes over.
  • Space Shuttle News, Traffic and Weather
  • Story about their old manager

Enjoy!!

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Here’s Steve & Garry from March 16, 1982 on WLS-FM. This post will be in 3 parts. This is Part 2.  Click here for Part 1.

It is about General James Lee Dozier who was kidnapped by an Italian Terrorist group in December 1981 and was held for 42 days. It is a parody of Juke Box Hero by Foreigner.
