Steve & Garry interview John Waite – 10-26-84

John Waite - Missing You

On Friday, October 26, 1984, John Waite came by the WLS-AM studios for a chat with Steve & Garry. Waites’ popularity began as part of the British rock/pop group The Babys. The group was together from 1976 – 1980. After the group disbanded, Waite went solo in 1982.  This interview finds Waite touring his second album, No Brakes, which contained the hit song Missing You.

The Album went gold just a few weeks before this interview.

Steve Dahl always orchestrated great interviews. His nonchalant style and the fact that he is usually a fan of the people he interviews brings out the best in the interviewee. There have been many instances where the person being interviewed comes into the studio when S&G are on the air and didn’t realize they were “on the air” due to their casual banter and the thing that made Steve & Garry so great.

Prior to John Waite coming into the studio, Steve & Garry “Welcome the Weekend” ala Mitch Michaels and do a quick round of “You pick it-We play it”.

Enjoy!!

Celebrity Jeopardy! with Jim Belushi – January 1982

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Jim Belushi was a frequent visitor to the Steve Dahl Show. This aircheck was made in February of 1982 when broadcast on a “Best of” show so it may have been edited from original before airing. The original date of the broadcast would be late January 1982. There is a reference to John (Belushi) being on the cover of Rolling Stone the week before which would have been Issue #361 dated 1/21/82. John would die 6 weeks after this was recorded.

At this time, Jim was appearing at the Shubert Theatre as the Pirate King in a run of “The Pirates of Penzance” and stopped by the studio to play a little Celebrity Jeopardy!

The audio is below in two parts. In Part 2 you will hear the song: Sink the Bismarck. This song was performed by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd at Bob’s Country Bunker in the movie Blues Brothers, but the scene was cut from the movie.

Enjoy!!
