Yesterday we posted two airchecks from earlier in the week of February 1, 1982. You can listen to them here. This aircheck is from the Steve & Garry Show from Friday, February 5, 1982 as broadcast on WLS-FM.
Impressionist/Comedian Rich Little came by the studios for an interview and a quick game of Celebrity Jeopardy!. When Rich arrived (with his entourage) he didn’t know much about Steve, the Steve & Garry Show or their style. Little, at the time, was a pretty big name celebrity and was on a promotional tour for his new album “The First Family Rides Again”.
Most celebs that are on promotional tours usually go from station-to-station (TV and/or radio) expecting the same shtick…Come in, talk about the album or appearance and leave. This is hardly the case with Steve & Garry. In this instance, Rich Little totally did not get Steve & Garry and was not into the Celebrity Jeopardy! thing at all. And, to make things worse, Jim O’Donnell was not available to host as the voice of Art Flemming so Steve had to host. To make the game workable they needed a third contestant, so they brought in Larry Lujack for the third seat. Uncle Larr was not into the game as well and was somewhat whiny.
After Rich left, Steve had to analyze the whole thing (as he often does) and at one point said “Screw Rich Little”.
Apologies in advance for some very rough spots in the audio.

As a side-note: one of the pieces in the Steve & Garry opening show clips featured Rich Little and Dave Thomas each doing a Bob Hope impersonation. (You can hear an example here at the 1:00 mark from this 2/15/82 show.) If you want to hear the Bob & Doug Celebrity Jeopardy!, it starts here. The Bob Hope impression is at the 8:35 mark, here. This is a great example of how a celebrity interview and Celebrity Jeopardy! really worked on the S&G Show.
