Steve & Garry – Joe Walsh & Anthony

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

As you probably know, we have set our Way-Back to 1983 where we are playing our airchecks in chronological order (as we have them). Currently, in 1983, Steve & Garry are on vacation and off the air during this week so I am posting a random aircheck from the vast Stever Vault library.

On many occasions when S&G would go on vacation they would have celebrity fill-ins. This aircheck was broadcast on WLUP and Joe Walsh is stopping in the studio on the Friday before S&G are about to take the next week off. Joe will be the fill-in.

I’m not sure if this is from the AM or FM or the date of this piece. There is a phone number mention of 591-ROCK and 591-ROLL. Does that mean it is from the FM?

We have two airchecks below. In part II, Anthony stops by to take some calls with Joe.

We will return to 1983 on Monday with a lot of audio throughout the month so don’t go very far!!!

Steve, Garry & Anthony – WLUP-AM

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

"Ay, I just buffed da hood!"

I don’t have a date on this aircheck but it was broadcast on WLUP-AM 1000. It contains two songs “To All the Broads I’ve Porked Before” and “Let’s Pork“. Anthony also takes some phone calls but this segment is not called “Ask Anthony”.

Steve Dahl as Anthony DiGiovanni

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

"Ay, I just buffed da hood!"

As far as characters go, Anthony DiGiovanni is probably one of the Dahl fan favorites. There are requests on the Steve Dahl forum asking Steve to do Anthony on the podcast. At this point, his appearances have been few and far between.

As promised, this week we are delivering some bonus content (while Steve & Garry are on vacation back in 1982). Here is a compilation of several airchecks featuring Anthony. The first two are “Ask Anthony” segments that aired on WLUP-AM in 1986. As you will hear in the last couple of segments, Steve seemed to be getting tired of the feature. Listeners asking the same questions over and over as well as limited listener participation.

Aircheck #3 features Anthony at Festa Italiana in 1987. This is AG at his best and being the ultimate celebration of “Italianess”, he is completely in his element.

Steve & Garry – Oct. 31, 1988 – War of the Worlds (1/2)

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Happy Halloween!!! Just like Christmas, it seems like the decorations come out earlier and earlier each year. Well, the same holds true here as we pull out a Halloween broadcast mid-month.

When Steve & Garry moved to WLUP-AM 1000 they began doing a lot of radio theater. Mother truckers with Squinty & Lyle, The Cornbores Saga and various other radio dramas like A Christmas Carol and The War of the Worlds (Yes, we have audio of all of these).

Here is over an hour of a Steve & Garry show broadcast on October 31, 1988. This includes the broadcast recreation of the 1898 H.G. Wells science fiction novel The War of the Worlds. The War of the Worlds radio drama was first broadcast on the CBS radio network in 1938.

As with most radio dramas done by S&G, they are always a work in progress. Stops and starts. Improvements and corrections. I think that is one of the things that made these features so great.

Our cast of characters include:
Steve Dahl
Garry Maier
Cliff
Tommy Skillethead
Paul Garry
Paul Steve
Anthony

This segment will be split into two posts with two parts per post. Because this was recorded from an AM radio signal, there are tendencies toward signal fade and audio dropouts.

Part 1 of 4 (21:59)
Highlights include:
Show Open
Steve had a bad day betting on football
The War of the Worlds

Part 2 of 4 (22:14)
The War of the Worlds (continues)

Steve & Garry – Best of the 80’s – #4

Highlights include (22:53):

  • Steve’s Brother
  • Phone calls
  • Ask Anthony
  • Jokes
  • More Ask Anthony
  • Steve’s Producer – Rick
  • Montage of clips with music behind

Enjoy!!
