First a quick note: Thanks to several fans of this site, I have received a good handful of Steve & Garry audio both in mp3 and cassette form over the past few weeks. Thank you, this is very much appreciated. For readers (listeners) of this site this is great news for you! I will try to post more material, more often. A lot of the new material is from WLS-FM, WLS-AM and WLUP-AM (1985 – 1990). If you have audio you would like to donate, please read this.
Speaking of new material…
Sam Kinison was a frequent visitor of the Steve Dahl Show and would never disappoint. Great stories, awesome jokes and of course, the laugh.
In this audio piece Sam visits Steve & Garry on WLUP-AM 1000 during his 1989 comedy tour playing the Holiday Star in Indiana. This show was broadcast May 17, 1989. It is presented in two parts.
Highlights of this segment include candid discussion of Sam’s recent divorce. A call and visit from Slash of Guns N’ Roses. And the ripping of Andrew Dice Clay. Plus so much more.
Enjoy!!

Steve’s first-born is Patrick Dahl. He came into the world on April 28, 1981. Happy 29th birthday!!
Here is 6 minutes of audio from the Steve & Garry show from that day on WLS-FM. Janet is in labor. Steve is not in the studio (for obvious reasons). Larry Lujack is filling in for Steve.
In our last few posts you heard Maggie doing several news stories about the beginning of the Falklands War. The Falklands War lasted 74 days; from April 2, 1982 to June 14, 1982. Steve’s parody song has been around for 28 years.
Falklands! is a parody done to the J. Geils Band song Freeze Frame.
Here is a quick 5 minutes of audio from a Steve and Garry show on WLS_FM from early May 1982. It is an early version of the song and some chatter. This might even be the radio premier. Sorry, the first second of audio has been cut out. Just say “Falk” as you are hitting the play button.
The final version included a video that you can see below. It came from TheOriginalShockJock site. (no animals were harmed in the filming of this video)
Here is about 30 minutes of audio from the day after the Marcus Palmer Tribute Show. It ran on WLS-FM on April 29, 1982.
To listen to the Tribute Show, scroll down or go here for Part 1.
Steve & Garry talk about the day before and Pat’s birthday party the night before. Steve also tries to make go-cart noises and Maggie does news about Marcus and the Falklands.
Marcus Palmer was big. Big in all aspects of the word. Including a really big heart. Not only did he help Steve & Garry with the show, he became a friend to both S & G and was much loved by staff and regular listeners.
Marcus passed away Monday, April 26, 1982. He was just 20 years old at the time. Marcus had a cardiac arrest on the operating table during routine tonsil surgery. The news was discovered during a phone call to the hospital while Steve & Garry were on the air making for a surreal and devastating experience. What starting a few days before as jokes and wise remarks about a routine procedure turned into the unthinkable.
S&G left the show after hearing the news and did not come into work on Tuesday (4/27). This is about 40 minutes of audio from the Steve and Garry show on WLS-FM the day they returned, April 28, 1982. This post is in two parts. This is about as real as radio gets.
Sorry that the audio quality is not the best. I did what I could to clean it up a bit. The first two minutes are pretty rough but it does get slightly better.
Please post any Marcus memories that you may have in the Comments section.
You can hear additional airchecks with Marcus on The Stever Vault by clicking the “Marcus” tag at the bottom of this post.
This is a brief article that ran in the Milwaukee Sentinel. Click on photo for a larger version.

Here is 45 minutes (one side of a cassette) of Steve & Garry from Friday, April 23, 1982. Broadcast on WLS-FM. This post is in two parts. Go here for Part 1.
The audio quality of this post is so-so. If the original source material is not that great, there isn’t much I can do.
There is some funny stuff with the Steve Martin cutout.
Highlights include (26:31)
News w/ Maggie (cont.)
Steve Martin – Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid promo w/ life-sized cutout
More diaper talk
More about disgruntled show guy
Playing with the Steve Martin cutout out the window

This is the last show that Marcus Palmer ever appeared on before he passed making it a little bitter sweet. I have some audio from the Marcus Palmer tribute show but the quality is not that good. Very over-modulated. Can anyone give me any feedback as to the quality of audio you are expecting here? I can post it, but would rather not if people won’t want to listen to something that sounds crappy. Thoughts?
The quality of this post is so-so. If the original source material is not that great, there is nothing I can do.
