Happy Holidays!!

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Whatever your religion, beliefs, or mode of celebration, we wish you the very best this holiday season and in the coming year. Thanks for spending some time ’round this little part of the world.

Sometimes a blanket, a hot meal, or a new pair of warm socks is gift enough. Please consider how the change in your pocket might affect those less fortunate and please support whatever charities you are able to this Holiday Season. Times are tough for all of us, but if we’ve got internet access and a place to store MP3′s, we’re probably better off than many.

It’s a goofy world, and we’re all trying to make our way. Be good to each other.

Thanks to all the supporters and contributors to this site.

Peace & Love,
SteverFan

It’s 1983 all over again!

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

This morning I broke out the box of tapes from 1983 to try to get them into some sort of order. I try to stay about 2 months ahead with digitizing tapes for the site.

Here are all the 1983 tapes in groups by month.

Then, everything got put into chronoligical order by date. I will probably start with tape #1 this evening dated, 1/2/1983.

There are about 175 tapes here. That’s about 260 hours of digitizing time plus the time needed to clean and polish 30 year old audio. I can’t wait to hear the classic stuff again.

Don’t forget, you can always hear modern day Steve Dahl on the DahlCast at Dahl.com.

What I did on my summer vacation…

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Did you think we fell off the face of the Earth or something? Well we didn’t. Just kicking back and enjoying the summer for a few weeks and listening to the new Dahlcast.

We have also been digitizing a lot of audio for you. And, as you can see by the photo, sometimes 30 year old tapes don’t hold up so well. It is usually the part where the leader connects to the actual tape that breaks. Anyway, in this instance the cassette usually has 5 little screws that hold the cassette together. Unfortunately, this tape had no screws and was sealed. I had to crack it open and transplant it to a donor tape to get it to work. I thought about just tossing it, but the title said “Dan Aykroyd” so I really wanted to save it. (You’ll get to hear it in November. All told, an hour that I hope to get back when I’m on my death bed.

We will have a lot more classic Steve & Garry audio coming up soon, and lots of it!!! So stay tuned.

SteverVault Update

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Since March we have been posting airchecks from 1982 in chronological order thanks to a fan who sent about 500 cassette tapes of Steve & Garry on WLS-FM ranging from 1982 – 1984.

It appears that we are a little light in content from July and August 1982 in this series. BUT FEAR NOT!

We have a lot of other material to post throughout the summer as I also work on that box of tapes. So look for a little randomness over the next two months and a few re-posts from the summer of 1982. However, we probably won’t be posting every day.

Enjoy!!!

Thoughts on April 1982

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

As you know, we are trying to post Steve & Garry airchecks in somewhat of a chronological order. We are moving to April of 1982.

I approach this month with a little trepidation and a heavy heart. I have already digitized all the content for the coming month and have listened to it all. If you remember this is the month that Marcus Palmer passed away. Listening to the audio again makes one realize how “heavy” (the best word I could use at this point) and real this whole situation was.

We have the show where Steve called the hospital to check on Marcus and received the bad news. We have the show before that one where Steve & Garry teased Marcus about the operation.

All that went down at the end of the month. S&G were on vacation for a week or more in April so I have no audio for the 5th through the 15. But fear not, we will have some surprise bonus audio to throw your way along with a couple other things. Any Anthony fans out there?

So hold on to your horses, we have a crazy month ahead of us…

ps – your comments are always welcome.

SteverVault update

Monday, February 28th, 2011

As you can tell, I have been procrastinating a bit. I thought I would give you a quick update of what I am working on…

A couple of months ago I received about 500 cassette tapes of the Steve & Garry Show ranging from 1982 – 1984. I divided them into boxes by year then started to put them in order chronologically. Since then, I have been digitizing them into mp3 audio. The quality of the tapes is excellent. The tapes begin in mid-March of 1982.

So, for the most part, I am going to try to post these in chronological order. The first tape is a March 19 show. I have already posted some shows from a few days earlier so I will start with a re-post of those show should you want to “pre-game”.

From what I have been listening so far, this is awesome stuff. Look for the rebroadcast of the Jeopardy! with John Belushi, The Steve Dahl Supper Club broadcasts and at the end of April the show that S&G found out that Marcus had passed and subsequent tribute show.

I will probably throw in some other things from time-to-time just to keep it interesting but the upside is that you can look for more frequent posts here.

Enjoy!!!

Merry Christmas Stever Vault fans!!!

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

This will be a gift for all those fans of The Stever and of The Steve Dahl Audio Vault. Last week I received this email:

Hello,

From March of 1982 to 1984 I recorded Steve and Garry on cassettes. I worked for [name omited] in 1990. He said he was part of the management team at WDAI that brought Steve Dahl to Chicago. He gave me a cassette aircheck from around March of 1978. I dubbed the cassette to 10″ reels before giving the cassette back. I do not know how many cassettes there are, but everything weighs 44lbs. I am doing some house cleaning and I would like to give these tapes to someone who would enjoy them. I found your website and it looks like you might be interested in them. Would you be interested in them for the cost of shipping? I would not want them back. I could just hand them over to you.

I started out recording on Maxell and TDK Chrome, but switched to cheaper cassettes due to cost. I recorded mainly from around 5:00pm – 7:00pm.

Greg

And this is the result of that conversation…

The tapes

There’s gotta be over 500 tapes here!!!  The reel-to-reels are at the bottom of one of the boxes. It may take a while to get through them. I have listened to a couple of tapes and the quality is excellent, save a slight speed difference between tape decks which is fixable with software, and they are completely scoped. I am currently listening to a rebroadcast (from just after John’s death) of the Celebrity Jeopardy with John Bleushi. I know of one other tape of this show so this should fill in some blanks. There’s so much good stuff here, I don’t know where to begin.

So, a HUGE shout-out to Greg in Springfield, IL for thinking of all of us.  Stay tuned…

If you have any Steve Dahl tapes, please read this.

PS – IT’S STARTING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS…Holiday posts will begin soon and often. I am trying to pull some December tapes from these boxes.

Congratulations Steve on Podcast #300!!!

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Today, Steve uploaded podcast #300 and has more than 4,500,000 total downloads since starting the DahlCast.

Congratulations!!

You can listen to the Steve Dahl podcast here.

Question to fans of this site…  Does anyone have a copy of the Steve & Garry production – A Christmas Carol? I have about 45 minutes (into scene 4) but would love to post the entire show. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Great holiday content coming soon…
