Steve & Garry – Monday, 4/26/1982 – The Marcus call

Here are Steve & Garry from Monday, April 26, 1982 as broadcast on WLS-FM. This is the show where Steve & Garry hear of the passing of their dear friend Marcus Palmer. It doesn’t get any more real than this. The first 9 minutes are S&G trying to confirm the bad news. The two left the studio shortly after that and the remaining 4 minutes of audio are snippets of the show with Brant Miller filling in. Maggie also fills in with news and is on the verge of tears as she talks about it.

Listening to this is like watching an old, familiar movie that has an unhappy ending where you wait, and wait, knowing that it is not going to end well. Every time I hear this aircheck my stress level begins to rise as each minute passes by.

Truly chilling. Weird to hear Garry in the background asking questions while talking to the hospital. Before the days of HIPAA, these days of course they wouldn’t give out this info over the phone to non-relatives.

Still hard to fathom after all these years. So sad, Marcus was awesome! RIP

This is truly reality radio, the trademark of this show, and Steve still to this day.

  3. This is probably the most memorable moment in Steve & Garry radio history, I knew Marcus from meeting him at some of the live events and shows, I cried that day, and it still feels like yesterday when we lost Marcus we lost a part of Steve And Garry, cause marcus was such a big part of their show, our dirty white boy will forever remain in our hearrts!
