This will be a gift for all those fans of The Stever and of The Steve Dahl Audio Vault. Last week I received this email:
Hello,
From March of 1982 to 1984 I recorded Steve and Garry on cassettes. I worked for [name omited] in 1990. He said he was part of the management team at WDAI that brought Steve Dahl to Chicago. He gave me a cassette aircheck from around March of 1978. I dubbed the cassette to 10″ reels before giving the cassette back. I do not know how many cassettes there are, but everything weighs 44lbs. I am doing some house cleaning and I would like to give these tapes to someone who would enjoy them. I found your website and it looks like you might be interested in them. Would you be interested in them for the cost of shipping? I would not want them back. I could just hand them over to you.
I started out recording on Maxell and TDK Chrome, but switched to cheaper cassettes due to cost. I recorded mainly from around 5:00pm – 7:00pm.

And this is the result of that conversation…

There’s gotta be over 500 tapes here!!! The reel-to-reels are at the bottom of one of the boxes. It may take a while to get through them. I have listened to a couple of tapes and the quality is excellent, save a slight speed difference between tape decks which is fixable with software, and they are completely scoped. I am currently listening to a rebroadcast (from just after John’s death) of the Celebrity Jeopardy with John Bleushi. I know of one other tape of this show so this should fill in some blanks. There’s so much good stuff here, I don’t know where to begin.
So, a HUGE shout-out to Greg in Springfield, IL for thinking of all of us. Stay tuned…

If you have any Steve Dahl tapes, please read this.
PS – IT’S STARTING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS…Holiday posts will begin soon and often. I am trying to pull some December tapes from these boxes.
WOW! What a score. You just never know when you’re going to have GREAT DAY!
Very cool, looking forward to it! Rock on, party hard for the holidaze!
Holy crap! That blows my collection away. I loved the Christmas stuff you posted for December. I have some of it including the Nightrider record’ argument. What’s really cool is, I’m noticing that I have some stuff that’s not included on your tapes, and vice-verse. I’ve already got mine ripped so I’ll be sending soon. Great score! Looking forward to hearing some of these again.
Happy New Year 2011 everyone! I wish the New Year will bring everybody a lot of business success and good health. I hope it will be much better than previous one.
