Here is Part 3 of Steve & Garry on WLS-FM from July of 1981. It is from a different show than parts 1 & 2. I believe this show is from July 20 because of the mention of the Chuck and Diana wedding being “just over a week away” as well as the Hyatt skywalk collapse which happened July 17, 1981.

Highlights include (11:55):

• “Hello, you’re on the air”

Steve also mentions that they are #2 in the afternoon. That didn’t take long!

I’m not sure why there are two sets of clips in the beginning. One probably does not belong. But, hey, what do you want to 25+ year old tapes.

I just love hearing the Cheryl’s Dad clip that starts, “I wouldn’t let my daughter go with you, or your sidekick…” The history on that is S&G held a Go to Prom with Steve and Garry contest when they were on The Loop (please correct me if any of this is not right). After the girl won the contest, Dad called to squash the entire idea and turning it into a classic clip.

Here is Steve & Garry from March of 1981 on WLS-FM enjoying Barry Manilow doing his VSM. Steve loves to hate Barry (doesn’t everyone?) and it goes back to the disco days. The VSM came from the Barry Manilow Live Album.

The show closes to polka music which most people enjoy more than BM.

This post rounds out the first week at WLS for Steve & Garry. Unfortunately for them, they are working on Saturday. The air date for this show is February 28, 1981.

This air check (11:23) is basically a Dating Game. A somewhat painful Dating Game. But funny, none the less. Of note, the show ends with the customary “Your beautiful, don’t ever change…”. However, they have dropped the “do bongs!” portion and end with polka music.

Just a personal note here…I’m going to highlight things that I’ll call “Steverisms”. A Steverism is some small tidbit that I picked up from The Steve Dahl Show that has remained with me throughout my life. 

This Steverism can be heard at the end of this episode and at the beginning of part 3. It is the little “Hua” they say at the beginning of the AC/DC song. Happily, I can report that I now have my son doing it also.
